Slido is gradually rolling out a new user interface. If the below steps and visuals match what you are seeing within your account, then you are using the new interface and this article is for you. If not, please see this version.

Use a Slido quiz to test for knowledge or simply add a little fun to your meeting or event. You’ll be surprised how a bit of competition can help keep your audience’s attention.

Slido also has an AI Quiz BETA feature available for Basic users in our PowerPoint and Google Slides integrations.

Create your quiz questions

To create your quiz:

  1. Use the + Add new button to create a new interaction and select Quiz
  2. Give your quiz a name (e.g. “Quarterly Sales Quiz”)
  3. Click + Add first question and enter your question and answer options
  4. Mark the correct answer using the checkmark on the left
  5. Select + Add another quiz question to add more questions

All quiz questions are multiple choice. You’ll always need to include at least two possible answer options and mark at least one of them as being correct.

Create a quiz question

You can even choose to have multiple correct answers. But if you do this, participants will need to select all correct answers in order to receive credit for the question.

Quiz timer

Every quiz question will default to having a 20-second timer. You can change this when creating or editing quiz questions by clicking on the timer near the top of the question – or you can change it from the Poll settings as seen below.

Edit the timer for quiz questions

Random quiz question

If you’re running a quiz for fun and are running out of question ideas, you can add a random question with a single click. Just select the Random question icon and you’ll be all set.

Add a random quiz question

There is a hard limit of 100 questions per quiz to ensure smooth performance. However, we recommend 30 questions or less to prevent audience fatigue.

Edit your quiz

You can edit your quiz or add more questions at any time. To do so, start by selecting the quiz from your My Interactions list. Here you can:

  • Rearrange the order of questions by clicking the 3 dot menu and then moving the question up or down
  • Edit the timer for each question
  • Add another question
  • Edit an existing question by simply clicking it (changes will save automatically)

    Edit your quiz

Activate the quiz so participants can join

Once you're all set, click the Play button or Start interaction to activate your quiz.

Activate your quiz

Before jumping to the first question though, make sure and give your participants time to join the quiz.

Joining a quiz is different from joining a slido. When a quiz is activated, participants who have already joined the Slido event will be prompted to join the quiz by entering their name. This name is what will be displayed at the end of the quiz if they finish in the top five.

Here’s what participants will see when a quiz is activated and they join.

How participants join your quiz

And as a host, you’ll be able to track how many people have joined the quiz. Then whenever you’re ready, you can begin by starting the first question

Run the quiz

After beginning with the first quiz question, use the control bar below to move forward. Click Lock voting to display the results and then click Reveal answer whenever you’re ready.

Continue your quiz by selecting Next question.

Run your quiz from the control bar

If you’re using the quiz timer, voting is locked and results appear automatically when the time is up.

Want to skip a question?

The current question is highlighted and marked as Live on the left. But you can use the green arrows to activate any quiz question at any time.

Select any quiz question to go live at any time

Display the leaderboard

After your final question, you can then reveal the leaderboard. This will display a leaderboard of the top five participants in Present mode, while at the same time telling every participant how they finished on their own devices.

Quiz participants are automatically ranked based on the number of correct answers they chose and how quickly they responded.

Reveal the leaderboard after your quiz

You can also choose to display the leaderboard at any point during your quiz. This is helpful if you wish to show participants where they stand part way through. Just select the leaderboard icon in the control bar before going to your next question.

Show interim leaderboard

Useful tips

  • Test beforehand and reset your results: It's good practice to test things out before your live event. Once you're finished with testing, click the three dot menu next to your quiz and select Reset results. This allows you to start fresh!

    Reset your quiz results

  • Run your quiz throughout a presentation: Slido integrates with both PowerPoint and Google Slides. This allows you to space your quiz questions throughout your presentation and activate them automatically while presenting. Learn more about all of our integrations in our Integration Hub.

Hi @Asley,

At the moment, the quiz is not automatic so you have to click on each question to make it live.

If you’d like to run multiple questions at the same time, you can run a survey instead.

I can totally see that it would be useful to make the quiz automated so I am submitting this as a feature request. We also have a similar thread here:

Hope this helps :)

This is a great thorough explanation of the Slido’s type of poll that Slido calls “quiz.”  It was very confusing to see quiz and muliple choice as types of poll options to create online polls.  Tell that in particular to teachers and professors whose universes are already filled with numerous forms of assessments. For most of us, quizzes and multiple choice questions are nearly synonymous. This should be addressed early in the Slido Academy.  It took me a web search to land on this Slido community forum or site.  If I did not land on this community site, I would have continue on to use other online poll apps instead.

Hi @Edward O,

No, at the moment, you cannot run a quiz to run on its own but you could create a survey and send it to your participants every Friday. A survey is a collection of polls and if you want to run it like a quiz, you just need to add multiple choice polls. When you’ve created it, you could send the link to your participants every Friday.

Hope this helps :)

Hi @M54

That sounds really fun 😁 - you certainly can use Slido for this purpose but for you to gauge the scores for the top 3 winners, they would all have to participate in the same quiz as you wouldn’t be able to calculate a leaderboard score over 10 individual quizzes.
When you run a quiz, you also have the option to display the leaderboard results to your attendees at any time, however, they will display the top 5 players, not 3.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

I want to make 10 quiz for individual guests. For each question, there are 3 answers and guests will chose one answer - then we will show the correct answer.

After 10 quiz, I want to give presents to TOP 3 people who choose the correct answers the most. Does Slido have such a function to know who are the TOP 3 winners in the quiz?

Hello @Kdrakerf,

It is possible to run a quiz or a survey (with pre-selected correct answers). This allows you to evaluate how many correct answer which student got. To be able to see exactly who and how many points got I would suggest exporting poll results per user.

For checking the name of the students we recommend using our SSO or SAML protection. This would ensure that they do not enter some fake names but it also may be a bit tricky as the protection cannot be always set up. I would recommend checking with your IT department if students could be verified via some school/university e-mail addresses. Also it is important to set the participant privacy to always require name. Otherwise students could be switched to anonymous.

You can also set name to be required without SSO/SAML verification but students can fill in fake names and sometimes people submit word Anonymous as a name and then it looks like they are anonymous.

Please keep in mind that it is important to test this before using it for real quizzes to make sure Slido really fits the needs you have.

I’m planning to allocate marks to students for “participating” in Slido Lecture quizzes. One mark for participating in the quiz, 2 marks for getting more than 50% correct. I’m curious if anyone else has done this, or something similar. I’m OK with doing some manipulation of data afterwards to get it into my LMS Gradebook, but wondering if anyone has any insight. I am thinking I need to let the students that they can’t be “anonymous” so I can track their participation and score?

Hey @Weibo Rao ,

If you are not wanting to reset the results, all of the participants submissions will combine together each time you run the Quiz. If you would want to keep specific groups separate, I would suggest duplicating the Quiz X amount of times you will be running it to keep the submissions from each session separate.

Let me know if this helps.

Best,

Hello Slido,

I will use Slido in a two-days event for interaction with people. They will take the Quiz and get prizes. The Quiz will be launched once an hour. How can I keep every attendee’s data without reseting the results.

Thank you very much.

Hey @Weibo Rao ,

I would suggest setting the Privacy settings of the event to collect names and emails of your participants joining as there is not a way to do this with the Quiz poll itself.

You dont need to reset the poll results unless you plan on using the total results from both days of quizzes to gift those winning because it will combine the leaderboard and results from all participants submissions over the two days.

Let us know if this helps!

Best,

Hi there @Flinders street trainers,

There are a few ways of you can re-use an existing quiz so that you don’t have to create everything from scratch.

  1. You can simply duplicate the quiz within the same event, this will duplicate the quiz questions without the answers.
  2. It is also possible to reset the results on your quiz. Here’s how you can do that. This will, however delete all the responses from the exports too so the leaderboard will be lost too.
  3. If you’d like to start a new event but run the same quiz, you can duplicate the old event with the quiz - this will only duplicate the quiz questions and not the answers from the old event. Here’s how you can duplicate an event.

Let us know if this was helpful or if you have any other questions :)

Is it possible to delete existing responses and re-use an existing quiz in subsequent training sessions?

Hi Slido,

I will host an interactive event during a two-days event, during which I would like to collect the guest informations, the emails and do some interactions with the guests, and then provide them some gifts.

What I plan to do is launch the Quiz every one or two hours.

I don’t want to reset the result every time a new Quiz starts, because I want to collect the attendees’ contact.

What are your suggestions for this requirement, to use the same Quiz multiple times during an event, and not reset the result every time.

Thank you very much.

Hello @TonyM.

you can find a limit for maximum participants on this link: https://www.slido.com/pricing?plan=annual

We have different participants limits per each plan. You can find it directly in the first squares on the website.

Kindly

Good morning,

I would like to know how many players are possible for a free quizz ?

Thank you in advance,

Regards

Hi @Angelique

Yes, you can!

Running a quiz with slido is designed to go alongside the Q & A feature, so you can achieve this in one event without having to create another Slido event 😁

What you could do when running a Q & A event before or after a live quiz is disable Q & A features. This will prevent any distractions whilst you are running a quiz. Alternatively, you could just have the Q & A feature on, but with moderation, so you can collect and review the questions as they come in before presenting them 😊.

Hope this helps!

Can I schedule a quiz to run every Friday for a specified period of time?  Is it the “session” option?  And does the Free version allow this; one survey per session?  Thanks

Hi, I have made a quiz for our next meeting at work. Is there a way I can make the quiz as a fullscreen so the participants cant see the sidepanels? I would liek the quiz to fill out my entire page.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Eva :)

Hello @Eva Yardley

In case you are using Slido as a standalone you can open the Present mode where Slido will cover your entire screen.

In case you are using Powerpoint or Google Slides you can check our integrations which would make it much easier for you to present on one screen: https://www.slido.com/features-integrations

For any other questions you can also open a chat with us option on the bottom left corner in your admin or our website. Our agents are there live 24/5 during CET timezone. They can also assist you immediatelly with the setup.

I've created a quiz with multiple choice questions and am rehearsing on my own, in presenter mode but without anyone to answer any questions. Every so often it just randomly stops and reverts to the start screen. Will this happen when I'm doing it for real? It would ruin everything!

Hey @Catriona this shouldn’t be happening.

In order to test quiz, I’d recommend to join it at least with your smartphone, so you would have at least one participant, and then reset the results.

Can you please reach out to us via chat on slido.com or send us an email to support@slido.com so we can take a closer look on this quiz of yours?

Thank you in advance!

What is the maximum number of participants that can take part in a single quiz?

Is there a way to show the participant their ranking after the quiz, without displaying the other participants names on the leaderboard?

Additionally, when testing, at the end of the quiz, I can only get view answers button to show to the participant if I display the leaderboard first. Is there another way?

Thank you.

Ami

Hey @Ami.Myers ,

Thanks for your questions!

Its not currently possible to show individual ranks for the Quiz without displaying the entire leaderboard, but we will submit this as a feature request to the team.

You can show answers after you’ve completed getting the responses, then on the next click will display the leaderboard.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,

Hello,

Can quiz run automatically, without me (as admin or presenter) clicking every time when I need to proceed to another question? I need it so participants can answer questions in their own pace.
