Integrate Slido with your PowerPoint presentation to include live polls, quizzes, and Q&A directly in your slides. The Slido sidebar allows you to create and edit your interactions without ever leaving PowerPoint.

If something’s not working for you, please see the current limitations and check out our troubleshooting guides (Windows or macOS)

In this article:

System requirements

We only support PowerPoint versions with the latest security and quality updates installed. Please make sure that your computer meets the following requirements so that Slido for PowerPoint runs properly.

Windows:

  • Windows 10 22H2 or later
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 or later with October 2024 updates applied

If you’re a Windows administrator for your organization, check out our specific guide for admins. This includes more detailed system requirements, plus instructions for installing Slido for PowerPoint on Windows for your entire team.

macOS:

  • macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2021 or later with October 2023 update (16.78) applied

We highly recommend keeping your macOS or Windows version up to date. This helps ensure that your Microsoft apps (including Slido) stay updated. If needed you can reference Microsoft’s release history for Office for MacOffice for Windows, or Microsoft 365 for Windows apps.

Download and install the integration

  1. Download Slido for PowerPoint
  2. Install it on your computer
  3. Launch it

You’ll need to follow these steps on each computer you are using to create or present your presentation. For your polls to work correctly, you must first install Slido and ensure you are logged in through the sidebar.

If you followed these steps and still have issues, please see our guides for troubleshooting (Windows or macOS).

Add Slido to your presentation

Open your PowerPoint presentation and you'll now see the Slido button under the Home tab. Don’t see the button? Restart PowerPoint.

  1. Click the Slido button to open the sidebar
  2. Log in if necessary
  3. Select a slido to use or create a new one

Adding Slido to your presentation

Pro tip: Use the filter and search options to find and add a specific slido. This is especially helpful if you’re a license owner, license admin, or anyone else who has access to a lot of slidos.

Filter or search for specific slidos

Add live polls and Q&A to your presentation

Adding polls:

Under New interaction, choose a poll type to add to your PowerPoint presentation. Polls are added as individual slides and they activate automatically as you present. This allows your audience to vote in real time.

Select a poll type

Slido for PowerPoint now offers an AI Quiz BETA feature for Basic users. It functions just like a standard Slido quiz, but is created in just seconds using AI.

Displaying poll results when presenting:

When adding or editing a poll, you can choose how to display your poll results. If you don’t want to display the results to your audience, simply toggle off Show results. When it’s toggled on, you have two options for displaying the results:

  • Immediately: The poll question and results are displayed in real time when presenting the slide.

  • On click: The poll question is displayed first when presenting the slide. Advancing one more click displays the results.

Adding a poll and choosing how to display results

Adding Q&A:

Just like polls, adding Q&A creates a new slide. Simply select the Audience Q&A option under New interaction and you’re all set.

Add Audience Q&A to your presentation

The Audience Q&A is open throughout your presentation, but the Q&A slide displays the questions directly while presenting.

All submitted questions will appear in the sidebar. There you’ll have the following options:

  • Delete or archive individual questions: Hover any question and choose either the delete or archive option.
  • Close or open the Q&A: Audience Q&A is open by default when you add it to your presentation. But you can always close or reopen it using the lock icon near the top of the sidebar.
  • View archived questions: Select the Archive button to view any questions you’ve previously archived.
  • Open Q&A in your browser: Select the Manage in browser button to open your Q&A in a new browser window. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of questions coming in from your audience and/or you’re using Q&A moderation.

Manage Q&A from the sidebar

The Manage in browser option opens up your Q&A in Slido Host mode. This is also where you can set up your Q&A and polling in advance if you wish.

Bulk Q&A actions: Select the three-dot menu for Q&A bulk actions. There you can archive all questions, download all questions, or simply remove the Q&A from your slido entirely.

Holding slides:

Every slido interaction added to your presentation (poll or Q&A) creates a holding slide in the slide deck.

Holding slides in PowerPoint

It is important that you do not edit the text, images, or background of these holding slides like you would any other slide. To change how your Slido slides appear in your presentation, see the section below for changing your Slido theme.

Holding slides contain data that ensure Slido runs smoothly throughout a presentation. Editing them like a standard slide can cause performance issues.

Change your Slido theme

Easily change the theme of Slido slides to match your presentation. You can add your custom colors or upload a background image directly from the sidebar.

  1. Click on the hamburger menu icon in the top left of the sidebar
  2. Select Customize

Choose a theme from our gallery – or click Edit to select custom colors or upload a background image.

Start presenting

Once you've finished preparing your slides and you're ready to go, start your slideshow.

You can begin your slideshow as normal or simply select the green Present button in the Slido sidebar.

Begin presenting with Slido

Your polls will activate automatically as you present them. The results will update in real time on your slide and on participant devices.

Pro tip: Use images to add context to your poll questions. Select the image icon when creating or editing a poll to upload a picture from your desktop.

Add an image to your poll

Ask your audience to join

Every Slido slide will display the slido code and QR code on the left side. To join, participants can enter the slido joining code at slido.com or scan the QR code on their mobile devices.

Once they join, they can interact with your polling and Q&A.

You can also pair our PowerPoint integration with Webex, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams. This allows your meeting participants to join directly from their meeting window.

Pro tip: Add a Joining slide to your presentation. Joining slides display the joining instructions for Slido. It’s great for introducing your audience to Slido and inviting them to participate.

Collaborating on a presentation

If you’re preparing the presentation with someone else and you’ve added them as a co-host, they’ll be able to see the Slido interaction slides as well.

If you do not add them as a co-host, they’ll see a No access notification when opening the slido sidebar. From here, they can sign in under a different account or request access from the slido’s owner.

Sidebar message when someone does not have proper Slido access

Double-check that you have the AutoSave option enabled in PowerPoint. This will sync the file either with your OneDrive or SharePoint account. You can then share the presentation with your colleague.

In order for the presentation to run properly with Slido, make sure that:

  • The person presenting has the Slido for PowerPoint app installed
  • The person presenting has co-host access to the slido which is linked to the presentation. They can request this access directly from the sidebar.

Settings

Access your slido’s settings and more using the Menu in the top left corner of the sidebar. See the menu options below and learn how they can each help get the most out of your presentation with Slido.

  • Share with participants: Here you can copy your slido’s direct joining link or copy/download its QR code.

  • Collaborate: View and manage co-host access to your slido.

  • Change background: Change the theme for your Slido slides to match your presentation.

  • Manage Slido in browser: View your full settings at slido.com. Here you can adjust more complex settings such as privacy or branding.

  • View analytics: This opens up your Analytics at slido.com, where you can view and download your data.

  • Reset Slido: Use this option to reuse the same slido within the presentation. Poll results will be deleted and Q&A questions will be archived.

  • Duplicate Slido: Use this option when you’re using the same presentation with a new audience. This will create a new slido with the same polls attached to your slide deck. Your original polls and audience questions will still be available to you at slido.com under the original slido.

  • Use different slido: Select a different slido to use with your presentation.

It is currently not possible to unlink a slido from the Powerpoint presentation, but you can reuse the slido or add a new one to your presentation.

Hi @Meggie from Slido , thank you for your answer.

I have found out how to customize the slido pages with background graphics etc now. And you hint to change ppt options did the magic!!!

All the best

Hi Slido team,

After my presentations I usually print a PDF version of the slides. Would it be possible to integrate the results of Polls and Q&A in the print-version and/or add them to the powerpoint if you end the survey?

BR

Hi @DeannaC

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having. Would you be able to contact our customer care team, they’re available 24/5 and will able to look into what’s happened here in more detail. You can contact them via our live chat or by reaching out to support@slido.com

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi @Montee,

The integration is the best way to combine PowerPoint and Slido. Although it’s not possible to add Slido into PowerPoint presentation without installing the integration, there is another option.

If you open present mode in your browser, you can then switch between your presentation and Slido present mode using either the three-finger swipe (on Mac) or the keyboard shortcut Alt+Tab (on Windows).

Please note that this doesn’t add Slido directly to your presentation, it’s simply a way to switch between the two (your presentation and Slido).

I hope this helps :) Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello @Mona A as there can be multiple factors would it be possible to approach support@slido.com with some screenshots as well? They will be able to assist quicker.

I’m wanting to run a Slido poll on an existing slide because I want audience members to answer questions about what they see on that slide. Is there a way to do that? I only see ways to make Slido polls a separate stand alone slide.

Hello @apierce0115,

The replies from the Slido moderator can be seen only in the participants’ view. So everyone using their device for posting questions should be able to see the replies.

But when it comes to the Present mode in general, it is not possible to display Slido replies. It does not matter if you use the integration with PowerPoint or you would use Slido as a standalone. Currently the way it is designed for the Present mode is to show questions from the audience only.

Hello! We used Slido for the first time today during a large meeting, and one big bummer that we couldn’t figure out, was a way to show in the PowerPoint presentation the replies that the moderator was responding with. Is this not a possibility? Do you have to have a paid plan or certain settings? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU

Hi there, I’m on the basic plan and have successfully added three polls to my powerpoint presentation. I am running a number of different sessions using the same presentation (and polls) over two weeks, but notice that there is a time limit of one week per slido. Please can you advise on how I can run these sessions? The basic plan says there are unlimited slidos so I’m hoping this is possible.

Thanks for your advice.

D.

Hey @djh ,

With the Basic Plan, the default dates are set to 7 days. You can adjust the date of the slido to run longer in 7 day increments. This is a feature limitation on the free plan. Our Annual Plans allow for slidos to be active for up to a year.

I would suggest changing the active dates of the slido after each session to allow it to reflect the next sessions dates.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,

Hi there,

If I integrate Slido into PowerPoint with my paid subscription but I will need my team member to use his/her laptop to present,

  1. Must the person install the Slido Plugin to their PowerPoint?
  2. Must the person have a purchased seat/subscription (or can they just have guest access)?

Thank you.

Hey @Hasif ,

Thats correct, your team member will need to download the Powerpoint add-in to their computer (you need this on whichever device you create and use Slido on). They do not need a paid seat on your license, you can send them a co-host invitation to access the slido, and help create and run it.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,

I first prepared the slido on slido.com and thought I could pick it up within PowerPoint, but it doesn’t appear. I find myself self scrolling for the correct one, but I only see my colleague’s.

Hi @ulf

You definitely should be able to use a slido in PowerPoint that you created at slido.com. If you see your colleague’s slidos in the sidebar, it probably has something to do with your access and role. If you could please chat in with our support team or reach out to support@slido.com, they’ll be able to look at your specific account and see what’s going on.

I am using Slido integrated into my PowerPoint slides in an educational setting and primarily for presenting multiple choice questions.  My multiple choice questions typically have four answer choices: A, B, C, or D.  When the class results are revealed, the multiple choice responses have been reordered by most popular selection by the class.  Is there any way to have the results of the poll to be displayed in the order that they appeared initially in the question.  In other words, I want the results to be displayed in A, B, C, D order and not reshuffled so that the most popular selection appears first.  Thanks.

Hello @MJD

You can fix the order of poll options for a specific slido if you open its settings. You can get there from the Powerpoint sidebar by selecting Advanced settings from the hamburger menu.  Another way of accessing this is going to slido.com, selecting your slido, and then opening its settings there.

Inside of these settings you can enable the option called fixed order of poll options. I am also sending a screenshot attached.

Hi I gave access to my PPT and Slido to another user with a slido account. However, she is unable to insert the slido poll created in her slido account. How can we access her slido polls and incorporate it in the PPT.

Hello @rac59,

Thank you for your suggestion. It will be forwarded to our team as a feedback for Powerpoint integration. I am not sure if it would be possible technically but it is good to receive feedbacks like this for the future.

Hi,

I’ve given my presentation and want to send my slides through for circulation. Can I save it so the results show in the set of slides that are circulated, not the question?

Thanks!

Hello, we run all our conference slides from 1 pptx deck. We have multiple Slido rooms set up - one for each panel. We would like to insert Audience Q&A into the pptx for each panel. However, I am not able to select a specific room. Can I integrate Audience Q&A for multiple rooms (same slido) into my one pptx file? thanks

Hi @Gawain

This is not currently possible. Because Slido slides are integrated to activate the poll live when presented, there isn’t a way to convert them to a static poll with only results. However, you can still download/share specific poll results or even a link to all poll results from your slido’s Analytics page. Check out this guide to see exactly what I mean.

Let us know if you have more questions!

Hi @cit

For better or worse, Powerpoint presentations can only be linked to a single slido room at a time. If your sessions aren’t happening concurrently, you should be able to use a single Q&A. If they are happening at the same time, you’ll most likely need to split up the deck. I’d suggest reaching out to support@slido.com or starting up a chat with us to discuss your specific use case. I’m sure our teams can help with a solution.

I have recently installed the upgraded PPT plug-in but now it doesn't work. I cannot open slido in PPT. is there any way this can be fixed?

Hello @marcin_cichy

would it be possible to provide us with some details what happens if you try to open Slido in Powerpoint? It would be valuable to see some screenshots of any errors that show up.

Also if you could share all the details with screenshots directly to support@slido.com you may receive much quicker reply from our Customer Care team.

Kindly

Hello Slido Team,

As the add-in is regularly updated, is there a way to receive notifications about new versions? I couldn't find such an option within the app.

Kind regards
