Question

Accessing IDEAS on new interface

Will we be able to use IDEAs in the same way once we switch to the new interface?

I seem to recall having trouble with IDEAs when I tried out the new interface awhile back (which is why I switched back to the old way). If IDEAs are disrupted, this will be a major issue for me because it’s the only thing I use Slido for and it’s a central activity in all of the classes I teach.

Hi @RobbyRatan,

I understand how crucial the Ideas feature is for your classes, especially for brainstorming and finding the best ideas using Slido.

However, it was built with outdated technology, which is why it remained a BETA feature and wasn't included in the new interface. We're actively working on a better solution, though we don't have a timeline yet.

As a workaround, I suggest using the Open Text Poll or the Q&A feature for brainstorming. To stay informed about the Ideas feature's return, subscribe to our Product News by clicking "Subscribe."

If the current Slido plan no longer meets your needs and you can't wait for the Ideas feature's return, we're happy to accommodate you. Please reach out to us at support@slido.com.

Kindly,

Ohhh bummer! I really like the IDEAs function. I structure most of my undergraduate classes around it, actually, but it allows realtime upvoting, which means any student could get called on to discuss their post with me. I’m not seeing that functionality in Open Text Poll or Q&A -- or am I missing something?

Hello @RobbyRatan,

Open Text does not have the upvote feature, that is correct, and I understand that you miss this feature.

With an open text poll, people can submit responses to a topic in full sentences so that functionality is mirrored. One of the reasons for deprecating the ideas feature was that besides the like-dislike feature, it matches open text poll. Maybe we can enhance open text to include this in the future, this remains too far in the future for us to determine at the moment, but we have considered it.

Regards,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the like/dislike feature is central to my pedagogical approach. I usually have students post their answers and then read each other‘s responses and like the ones they want to discuss.

Unfortunately, this means I need to look for alternative platforms. If you’re able to suggest any which have this feature, I would appreciate it. I found Mentimeter and Wooclap, both of which have a similar up above feature, but I’m not sure if it’s possible to sort responses by the number of outputs, which is essential for me.

alternatively, if you were able to put this into your open responses, please reply to this message in the future and I will return to slido.

Hi @RobbyRatan,

Thanks for sharing your teaching approach with us. It sounds like you've created a really engaging way for your students to interact and learn from each other. We understand how important the like/dislike feature is for your discussions, and I’m sorry that we can't offer it in our Open Text poll right now.

Our Audience Q&A does have the upvote/downvote feature, so maybe that could work for you as an alternative? As for other platforms, we don't have specific recommendations, but there may be other tools out there that could meet your needs.

We're truly sorry to hear you'll be leaving Slido for now, we completely understand how vital this feature is for you. I've logged your feedback internally as a feature request, and we hope that suggestions like yours will drive changes in future versions of Slido.

Please feel free to keep an eye on our Product News, as we would love to welcome you back if we introduce this feature in the future. You can also subscribe to receive updates directly, so you'll be the first to know if we roll out something that matches your needs.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

I do see that Q&A has voting, but it doesn’t seem possible to pose a prompt for students to respond in the Q&A. Is this possible if you have a plan with the moderation feature? If so, I’d be willing to upgrade my account from Engage to Professional. Is there a way I could test it out first?

Hi @RobbyRatan 👋

Certainly! With the Replies feature enabled, your participants can also respond to other submitted questions during the Q&A session.

If you would prefer not to upgrade right away, we'd be happy to activate a free 7-day trial for you to test with up to 10 colleagues. This trial cannot be used for your live event but will give you the opportunity to explore the features. If this sounds good to you, please feel free to reach out to us at support@slido.com.

Best,
