Some time ago, we announced that Slido’s host interface would be redesigned to provide a simpler and more intuitive experience. We also shared that a few existing features would be going away as a part of this change.
Now that the new interface is set to become permanent for all users on May 27th, 2025, we wanted to provide a little more context behind our decision making.
Deciding to retire a feature is never easy and it’s not something we take lightly. We strive to be as transparent as possible. And although there are numerous factors involved, the impact on our customers is always the most important.
See our list of retiring features below. And although decisions have already been made, feel free to share any feedback in the thread.
Ideas
The Ideas feature has proven to be a great option for crowdsourcing topics and brainstorming together as a team. It was built similar to our Q&A, allowing other participants to upvote and even reply to one another’s ideas. We’ve always recommended it to meeting organizers to collect their teammates’ thoughts in an engaging and transparent way.
However, the feature was originally developed in a way that made it difficult to evolve. The technology it was built from has become outdated, which is why it’s always been a BETA feature. We simply didn’t want to bring the same outdated tech to our new interface.
The good news is…we want to improve on what Ideas does and introduce better ways of brainstorming. Although we do not have a timeline for this, we understand the value and we’re actively working on a better solution within Slido.
Have you relied on the Ideas feature in the past? Let us know in the thread. We’d love to hear about your use case.
In the meantime, you can use Slido’s Q&A for brainstorming since it operates in a very similar way. Or you can also crowdsource ideas using an open text poll.
Polling Sessions
Using Polling Sessions is a great way to stay organized, especially when running large events with multiple presentations throughout. And we understand that being organized is essential for any meeting or event – no matter the size.
Similar to Ideas, we wanted to make a better version of this feature before bringing it to the new interface. We don’t have a timeline, but we’re actively researching ways to do this. It might not look the same as Polling Sessions, but we do want to reintroduce a way of organizing your polls in a way that works best for all use cases.
Agenda
The Agenda feature was initially developed to provide better organization for large conferences. With the rise of virtual and hybrid events over the past years, it became an essential feature for Event Planners and Organizers.
However, Event Management platforms evolved to provide much more robust and diverse Agenda features. Although our Agenda is certainly helpful for some users, it was never developed to be a core product feature. And for that reason, it has not made sense for us to continue evolving it as we do with our polling and Q&A elements.
We understand that some users will very much miss our Agenda. We know that it is still used in large conferences – and even in large corporate meeting environments. As an alternative, we recommend our external link feature.
Adding an external link to your slido makes the link easily accessible for your audience from their participant menu. Putting your agenda into a pdf and adding that as an external link can be a simple workaround that doesn’t require any other platform or product.
Closing
We very much appreciate your understanding. And again, these sorts of decisions are not easy. Please know that our users’ experience and the value that Slido brings them are always our top priorities – even when that means taking a step back in order to move forward.
