3 Slido features being retired with Slido's old interface

Some time ago, we announced that Slido’s host interface would be redesigned to provide a simpler and more intuitive experience. We also shared that a few existing features would be going away as a part of this change.

Now that the new interface is set to become permanent for all users on May 27th, 2025, we wanted to provide a little more context behind our decision making.

Deciding to retire a feature is never easy and it’s not something we take lightly. We strive to be as transparent as possible. And although there are numerous factors involved, the impact on our customers is always the most important.

See our list of retiring features below. And although decisions have already been made, feel free to share any feedback in the thread.

Ideas

The Ideas feature has proven to be a great option for crowdsourcing topics and brainstorming together as a team. It was built similar to our Q&A, allowing other participants to upvote and even reply to one another’s ideas. We’ve always recommended it to meeting organizers to collect their teammates’ thoughts in an engaging and transparent way.

However, the feature was originally developed in a way that made it difficult to evolve. The technology it was built from has become outdated, which is why it’s always been a BETA feature. We simply didn’t want to bring the same outdated tech to our new interface.

The good news is…we want to improve on what Ideas does and introduce better ways of brainstorming. Although we do not have a timeline for this, we understand the value and we’re actively working on a better solution within Slido.

Have you relied on the Ideas feature in the past? Let us know in the thread. We’d love to hear about your use case.

In the meantime, you can use Slido’s Q&A for brainstorming since it operates in a very similar way. Or you can also crowdsource ideas using an open text poll.

Polling Sessions

Using Polling Sessions is a great way to stay organized, especially when running large events with multiple presentations throughout. And we understand that being organized is essential for any meeting or event – no matter the size.

Similar to Ideas, we wanted to make a better version of this feature before bringing it to the new interface. We don’t have a timeline, but we’re actively researching ways to do this. It might not look the same as Polling Sessions, but we do want to reintroduce a way of organizing your polls in a way that works best for all use cases.

Agenda

The Agenda feature was initially developed to provide better organization for large conferences. With the rise of virtual and hybrid events over the past years, it became an essential feature for Event Planners and Organizers.

However, Event Management platforms evolved to provide much more robust and diverse Agenda features. Although our Agenda is certainly helpful for some users, it was never developed to be a core product feature. And for that reason, it has not made sense for us to continue evolving it as we do with our polling and Q&A elements.

We understand that some users will very much miss our Agenda. We know that it is still used in large conferences – and even in large corporate meeting environments. As an alternative, we recommend our external link feature.

Adding an external link to your slido makes the link easily accessible for your audience from their participant menu. Putting your agenda into a pdf and adding that as an external link can be a simple workaround that doesn’t require any other platform or product.

Closing

We very much appreciate your understanding. And again, these sorts of decisions are not easy. Please know that our users’ experience and the value that Slido brings them are always our top priorities – even when that means taking a step back in order to move forward.

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Hi,

I’ve fed this back several times already and have seen others have too but getting rid of ideas is a big deal for our organisation, especially since you don’t have anything to replace it yet. We use it regularly and it is probably our favourite feature as it enables people to upvote.

We use polling in our training sessions. Can i confirm that these will still be available/work after 27th May? We have just renewed our licenses and use this functionality a lot. Im surprised this is an area you are looking to change/drop. Please can you put my mind at rest we can still use our polling questions.

Thanks

Darren

Ideas was the main feature I used in Slido. Very disappointed, will be looking for a new platform for retreats and meetings.

As far as Ideas go:
In the meantime, you can use Slido’s Q&A for brainstorming since it operates in a very similar way. Or you can also crowdsource ideas using an open text poll.

If you use Q&A it clutters that area up very quickly. You get a leader to congratulate someone and everyone online wants to join in, then you have over 100 “congrats” and it’s time for Q&A and you can’t find the questions because of all the other responses. Could you have built that as an Open Text Poll? Maybe if you knew about it ahead of time or that the audience would react that way.

And Open Text Poll does not show responses to the audience that are online only unless they respond first. The Idea tab you could see all others regardless of if you entered your own response or not.

We have been trying not to use the Ideas tab so that we get used to the new format, but we still revert back to it from time to time.

You also left off your list of things going away the “Announcement” capability. It was nice to have that little space right above the Q&A area to post a quick message like “We will get started soon”, “Here is a link to an article”, “Any questions not answered live will receive a response after the session”, etc. Now we have to submit a “Question” and then pin it to the top for a bit.

Hello,

The fact that the ideas are dropped is pretty bad for us, because we use this to evaluate inquiries at major events... Q&A is NOT a substitute, as we were able to control the ideas separately, with topic blocks... if that goes away, it is a consideration for us to purchase another tool with a license and move away from Slido... very sad

Thank you everyone for the initial feedback and sharing 🙏

@DarrenMills The polling feature is not going away at all. The old interface included a way to organize your polls into specific “Sessions” or groupings within your slido. That is what won’t be available in the new interface. However, we are working on a better way to organize your polls within your slido. We just don’t have a timeline for it as of now.

@gripp Thanks for expanding on how you’ve experimented with the alternatives. It’s good for us to know how that’s gone for you. The Announcements feature is returning to the new interface before May 27th. I don’t have a solid date, but it should be in the next few weeks. You can keep track of all these features in our Feature Continuity guide

Hi there,
For collective intelligence sessions, we always use ideas. Even in training sessions.

Idea for quickwin solution [call to votes] 💡👍👍👍

Q&A work the same, but you cannot launch several Q&A and keep track of separate data collection for futur work. If you can just add a tag to archives Q&A :

  • Click on “Archive all question”
  • Open popup “Tag to add to these questions ?” with empty text box + Archive button
  • Find tag in the data export

Easy to do, easy to use.

Happy to help, let me know
