Slido’s Host mode includes a control bar to quickly manage your live interactions. Whether you need to lock in poll voting, close your Q&A, or display poll results to your audience, you can do so right from the bottom of your Host mode.

Using the control bar with polls

Use the control bar to activate any poll you’ve selected under your My interactions list. Just select Start interaction and the poll will be active for your participants.

Options when a poll is active

After activating a poll, the control bar will present the below options.

  • Select the red Stop button to deactivate the poll at any point. Deactivating a poll means that your audience can no longer see or interact with it.

  • Choose Prev to activate the previous poll from your list of interactions. If there is no previous poll, this option will be grayed out.

  • Choose Next to activate the next poll under your list of interactions.

  • The eye icon allows you to hide or display the live results to your audience. Sometimes it can be useful to keep the results hidden for a time – then display them once you’ve collected more responses.

  • Use the lock icon to lock or unlock poll voting. When a poll is locked, no new votes can come in – but results can still be displayed.

  • Click the active poll in the middle to view its live results. Because you can select other polls to edit or update while one is active, this option quickly brings you back to the poll that is live for your audience.

  • View as participant allows you to see exactly what your audience sees. Then select View as host whenever you’re ready to go back.

  • The green Present button opens up Slido’s Present mode in a new browser tab. This presents a fuller screen version of your slido and is perfect for presenting Slido while sharing your screen.

If you are running a multiple choice poll with a correct answer, you’ll also have a checkmark button in your control bar. This will reveal the correct answer to your audience.

See the below example of activating a poll from the control bar, editing a different one, then coming back to the original poll’s results.

Using the control bar with Q&A

When your Audience Q&A is selected and there are no polls active, you’ll see the option to Close Q&A. Closing your Q&A makes it so no new questions can be submitted. However, participants can still upvote questions.

And just like when a poll is active, select View as participant to see the participant experience, or choose Present to open Present mode.

Q&A Moderation and the control bar

If you’re moderating your Q&A while also running polls, the control bar is a good way to keep track of what’s live for your audience.

In the example below, a poll is activated – followed by the host approving Q&A questions. Then notice how the control bar is used to return to the active poll.

Pro tip: Use co-hosts to help manage your slido. They’re completely free and they can assist with both polling and Q&A.

FAQs

  • Do co-hosts have access to the control bar?
Yes, co-hosts can view and use the control bar – just like the original host can.

  • Can I use the control bar when running a quiz?
Absolutely. The control bar is the easiest way to run you live quizzes. Not only will it prompt you to display the correct answer and move on to the next question – it will also give you the option to display the current leaderboard at any point.
