Why it is no longer possible to share a short, memorable code (like sli.do/hashtag or slido.com/hashtag) for participants to join your Slido event, as was possible in the past?

This should still be the case. You can share your slido by copy/pasting the joining link (go to Share > Copy joining link). Or the slido.com/slidocode should also work just fine.
For example, the slido in my screenshot has the code #summersession. And going to https://www.slido.com/summersession should bring you to that particular slido.
Is this what you’re referring to? Or have I misunderstood your request?
