How can I run real-time voting poll with open-ended text fields?

We are hosting a virtual costume contest and want attendees to vote for each of their favorite categories during the team call.

What recommendations do you have to pull this off successfully? There are 5 categories for voting, including best overall. It is also impossible for us to pre-load a survey or multiple choices with names and/or voting options as the costumes will be revealed and need to be written in real-time. We are also expecting 25+ attendees, so pre-populating a multiple choice with expected names won’t be feasible.

Is there a template for this use case?

I am new to Slido and have currently set it up as multiple polls with word clouds, each integrated into the meeting PPT. The tutorial videos indicate the more popular words will be larger, but we prefer to see actual voting numbers (if even only me and a meeting collaborator). I am not finding how best to tabulate such results for the open text words, nor how best to export the outcomes for each poll question. Thank you!

Hello @ALowe

Thanks for all the details. I would advice using multiple-choice polls in case you need to see number of votes. You can also set the multiple choice in a way that it would show the actual vote numbers and not percentages.

When it comes to pre-populating the questions, you could theoretically create polls with options called A,B,C,D or something similar and then the costumes would have similar names so that your participants understand the logic of voting.

I’d also suggest restricting the Slido access to specific e-mails addresses or domains. That way you can make sure that there are no other people voting (using some incognito browsers or 2 devices for more votes) that could ruin the results. This option is available for Professional and higher Slido plans.

Feel free to ask if you have any additional questions.

Thanks, Ondrej. Unfortunately, I won’t have all 25+ attendees’ names/costumes to create a multiple-choice or A-B-C-D option for voting before the meeting (it would take the whole alphabet).

Instead, I have created open text question and manually counted votes we received in each category polling question.

I could see this becoming unwieldly if there weren’t clear favorites in our case - it would be great to have a smarter functionality for consolidating and voting in the future!

Hey @ALowe ,

Thanks for sharing and I’m glad you found a way that works for you. If you’re up for it, I’d suggest sharing your new idea for voting in our Slido Wishlist. That’s where other people can discover it and upvote it for product consideration.
